2NE1 is no doubt famous for the individual strengths of each member - supposedly, Bom & CL were considered strong enough to debut as solo artists, and Dara's history of fame in the Philippines speaks for itself.As for the foursome's maknae, Minzy is often associated with her grandmother, Madam Gong Ok Jin, a famous cultural dancer who played a critical role in bringing Minzy to where she is today. It's a well-known fact that the two have developed a close bond; unlike many other relatives, Minzy's grandma has supported her aspirations to be a singer since the beginning. Though Minzy initially felt burdened to follow her grandmother's fame, this became a driving motivation over time instead.
Unfortunately, the famed cultural dancer's health has been deteriorating in recent months, and though Minzy has been worried over this issue, she was especially hard hit these past few days. When she learned that her grandmother had endured a car accident and two strokes, the maknae teared up and was reportedly silent & troubled during the Asia Song Festival on the 19th. "When Minzy received the news regarding her grandmother's health, she was shocked," a YG representative revealed. "The other members of 2NE1 also comforted her."
Family friends revealed that Minzy made plans to visit & take care of her grandmother after her minialbum activities ended. In fact, during 2NE1's summer breaks between promotions, Minzy opted to stay with her grandmother for the vacation.
