Britain's got something, but is this REALLY talent? Body suits and burlesque among the latest TV hopefuls

By Paul Revoir

Lady in red: A Burlesque dancer is one of the many acts to audition in front of the judging panel in the new series of Britain's Got Talent

The contestants include dancers in brightly coloured all-over body suits, a singing parrot and a footballing dog.

So it can only be a new series of Britain's Got Talent.

The show returns to ITV this weekend with the usual assortment of eccentric and downright weird acts.

Yes we can can: A group inspired by 19th Century dance try their luck on the talent show which begins this weekend on ITV1

And perhaps worryingly, the presenters have promised even more variety than usual.

Ant McPartlin said he had been bitten by a dog, chased by a pig and shouted at by a contestant during a single day of filming.

He said: 'The audiences were really harsh this year, especially in Glasgow! They were quite volatile there with no patience.'

Fellow presenter Declan Donnelly added: 'One day there were 2,000 people singing "Cheerio' to an act. So much so that we had to go on stage and beg the audience to give them a chance.'

Judge Simon Cowell, meanwhile, said he would like to see a dog win this year's competition.

Among the contestants are dancers in brightly coloured all over body suits, a boy ventriloquist, a singing parrot, a Michael Jackson impersonation act, martial arts experts as well as dancing acts.

Judge Amanda Holden has claimed that this year that this year has the show's best dog act as well as a 'brilliant impressionist'.

She added: 'I definitely think this year is the funniest yet, and also has the widest number of potential winners. '

Egg on your face: Will the bizarre astronaut with his alien make it through to the finals of the TV talent quest?

Bear faced cheek: A ventriloquist is one of the many acts vying for the Britain's Got Talent title this year

Dec said: 'We love it more each year! The acts get more ridiculous and funnier, plus there's a greater variety this year.'

Judge Piers Morgan said: 'Amanda didn’t cry as much as usual, which surprised me. She normally blubs more water than a two month old baby with colic.'

Because Cowell was ill during the Birmingham auditions, Louis Walsh took a stint replacing him in the judging chair.

Last year's finale, which saw dance act Diversity narrowly beat Susan Boyle, peaked at more than 19million viewers.

The new series of Britain's Got Talent starts this Saturday on ITV1 at 8pm.
