Fashion designers should be free to use size zero models, says Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham has defended the right of fashion designers to use thin models - arguing that catwalk queens should not be discriminated against because of their weight.

Speaking on U.S. daytime show 'The View' - the American equivalent of Loose Women - the mother-of-three weighed in to the controversy surrounding size zero models.

'Most of these girls are naturally thin,' said Posh. 'And I don't think we should be discriminating against someone because they are too thin or too curvy or too large or whatever it is.'

Victoria, who received rave reviews for her fashion collection when it premiered on Sunday during New York Fashion Week, said she was passionate about a more inclusive fashion industry.

She has signed up to a campaign by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) which is calling for the industry to be more responsible about the models used.

'The CFDA have reached out to designers, stylists and casting directors not to work with underage models, girls that are too thin and to be more ethnically aware,' said Victoria.

'And I think designers are listening.


'I had a casting last week and had some terribly thin girls come in and it wouldn't have worked.

'The campaign the CFDA has launched is called 'Health is Beauty' and they are definitely encouraging designers to work with healthier sized models.

Dressed in a red jumper-dress and with her bobbed hair pinned up, Victoria went on to discuss her time as a judge on 'American Idol'.

Asked by one of her co-hosts, Whoopi Goldberg, what it was like to deal with all the terrible auditions that 'American Idol' judges go through, she said she tried to stay positive.

'Even if they are hopeless they might have a good pair of shoes on,' she said.

'They are going to find out they are pretty useless at some point. They don't need me to tell them that.

'I know how hard it is to stand there and sing in front of people.
'It (American Idol) is really humiliating to be honest, but I really believe in positive energy.'

Victoria was equally honest in her appraisal of her boss on the show, Simon Cowell.

'He knows what he is talking about and I've known Simon for a long time,' she said.

'So I can say that he is incredibly respected, he is very good at what he does and he is a complete pain in the butt.'

Asked about the rumour that Elton John might replace Cowell when he moves to the American version of the X-Factor, Victoria appeared a little cagey.

'There was talk and someone mentioned Elton John, but I don't know,' she said. 'He probably wouldn't do it, but he has a very honest opinion and he is very knowledgeable. He is fun, he is flamboyant.'

She also spoke about her horror if husband David was to wear some of the more outlandish costumes that male figure skaters are currently wearing at the Winter Olympics.

'I wear the feathers, not David, in our relationship,' she explained. 'And David would never wear a lycra cat suit.'
