Pale and interesting: Karen Gillan in London on Saturday Her adventures as the latest companion in Doctor Who have seen her crossing space and time.
So looking at the picture of Karen Gillan here, you might think that the Tardis had landed in Japan and she had disguised herself as a geisha girl.
The very white make-up and slash of bright red lipstick made her look like one of the traditional female entertainers.
In fact, the 22-year-old actress, who plays Amy Pond in the hit sci-fi series, was simply dressed up for a night out with a friend in London on Saturday.
The statuesque redhead turned heads as she stepped out in what looked like a white nightgown paired with a black leather jacket and ankle boots. Her look was completed by smoky black eye make-up.
This is not the first time that Miss Gillan's appearance has drawn attention. Her mini-skirts have become a regular fixture on Saturday evening TV screens as she appears alongside the 11th Doctor, played by Matt Smith, 27.
In one episode her character was seen trying to force herself on the Time Lord in her bedroom, leading some to accuse the BBC of trying to 'sex up' the programme.
Miss Gillan is currently working on the Doctor Who Christmas special, which will feature Sir Michael Gambon and Welsh soprano Katherine Jenkins.
