No mean feet: Russell Brand and Katy Perry take a walk in Griffith Park, Los Angeles before embarking on a hike up to the observatory

So, you're hiking up a rocky embankment in the U.S. - what do you decide to wear on your feet?

For the average person a pair of hiking boots or similarly thick-soled footwear would suffice, however Russell Brand and his fiancee Katy Perry went for a somewhat impractical choice for their rocky adventure - flip-flops.

The couple took a trip to Griffith Park in Los Angeles, where they hiked up to the park's observatory.

Both Brand, 34, and Perry, 25, had flip-flops on their feet as they trecked up the rocky incline to the observatory which offers stunning panoramic views of Los Angeles - from the Hollywood sign, to the city's downtown area and Santa Monica

Griffith Park Observatory opened in 1935, but it was closed for renovation in 2002.

It reopened in 2006 after a $93million facelift and continues to be a popular destination for LA residents and visitors alike because of the stunning views it offers and the serenity of its surroundings.

Meanwhile Katy recently shot scenes for a forthcoming episode of Sesame Street.

The 25-year-old first expressed her admiration for the long-running children's show last year, when she was spotted wearing a dress decorated with the show's characters.

Away from work Katy is busy planning her wedding to British comedian Brand.

She is said to have rejected his suggestion of a rock 'n roll wedding in favour of a church service.

As the daughter of pastor parents, she is said to be keen for her wedding to include them.

A source told the Mirror: 'Russ said she can have whatever she wants - as long as his mum's there.'
