Shooting of Tom Cruise's 'Knight and Day' Suspended After Bulls Attack

After seven bulls roamed free from the set of Tom Cruise-starred film and attacked two women, the filming in Cadiz, Spain has been postponed for an indefinite time by the mayor's office.

While "Knight & Day" has yet to kick off its principal photography in Cadiz, Spain, the shooting now has been postponed indefinitely following an accident in which bulls escaped from the film's set. "Nothing will be filmed in Cadiz until we have a new plan that guarantees the safety of local residents," a spokesperson for the mayor of the city has stated.

On Sunday, November 22, when the production had been rehearsing, seven bulls roamed loose on the narrow streets of Cadiz for about minutes before they were recaptured on a beach. Asked about the accident, Spanish producer Calle Cruzada claimed he did not know how the bulls managed to escape. According to local police and officials, two women were slightly injured during the stampede.

Luckily, the film's leading stars, Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, were not there when the bulls attacked people nearby. They are due to fly to Spain next week to shoot their scenes starting from November 28 or 29. The filming in the Cadiz, in the meantime, was originally set to be started on Monday, November 23.

In relation with the use of bulls in the film, members of CAS International have previously pleaded with Cruise and Diaz to pull out of the movie. On November 16, the anti-bullfighting organization released a statement that read, "Apart from the fact that bulls are abused for this movie, we also fear that after seeing this movie, even more American and other tourists will participate in the bull runs in Pamplona and elsewhere in Spain."

"Knight & Day" will follow Tom Cruise's Milner, a secret agent who goes on a blind date with unlucky-in-love Cameron Diaz's June. Trapped in a journey to protect a powerful battery that holds the key to an infinite power source, they become fugitives and they must figure out whether to be guided by truth or trust. Directed by James Mangold, the action comedy movie is scheduled to be released on July 2, 2010.
